Marketing Survival Kit

7:31 AM

As I like to always remind everyone that I am that marketing girl blah blah blah...
It's time to put  this post where my mouth is.

I already wrote about my story as Farah Marketing so if you want to know my background go check that out.

Every position has a survival kit no one tells you about, here are mine if you're new to the field or if you're experienced and wanna know what other are doing.

  • Your job is to COMMUNICATE!
simply put work on your soft skills and be ready to take the mic when least expected.
Also be ready for sudden media connections at any given day... those come from nowhere

  • Learn about something called a "Business Plan"
Google is there for you, you're suppose to market the business, so take some business 101 courses or read about them online... just get the lingo

  • Design
I'm not saying you have to learn the design skill itself; I'm just saying read about design concepts

  • Top 10's and Best practices
A lot of websites are dedicated to rank and review business and get you inspired and informed a little

  • Ask Smart Questions
Ask your Manager or GM about their future vision for the company and what would they like to achieve, if there is no brand guideline figure out what the big fellows like and don't like - this will come after few trials -

  • Time Management
If you're absent-minded out reminders on your phone (and be detailed)

  • Take Meeting Minutes
You are Marketing; you should be extra attention, sales just wanna get their commission and go home, finance just want to get more revenue and the GM or CEO just want to get their way and owners just want to see their money return... you're suppose to get it all (minus the commission of course) unless you're or a director or something.

  • Breathe
Yes, other departments think we just talk, laugh and have fun on social media and talk to press and scream at the agency... breatheeeee

  • Apps you need to have (my recommendation)
I'm not sponsored but those apps saved my life and they're just one click away.
Grid Maker, StoryArt, MoStory, Planoly, Nichi, pixaloop, Pixlr, any GIF maker app and converter, lightroom app, Filmora Go and adobe took down their premiere app I'm still looking for similar app.
And please, pretty please download word and excel (I make action plans on the GO all the time thanks to those two)

  • Competitor Watch
Keep any eye on what's going around and communicate it.

Now you can survive... good luck
