Content Marketing Creators vs Designers & videographers
2:20 PM
The terms "content creator" and
"content marketer" are often used interchangeably, particularly with
the rise of social media influencers. As a specialized content marketer, I find
this blurring of lines problematic.
My journey into content marketing was
serendipitous, blending my writing background with a passion for art. This led
to experience in text content, design, and even production. While I've acquired
skills in design and video, I'm not a specialist in either.
My expertise lies in content marketing
strategy, planning, and implementation. I understand the intricacies of these
disciplines because I've worked alongside specialists, but I don't claim
mastery. This distinction is crucial.
As a content marketer, I develop
strategies, create action plans, and manage budgets. I can provide precise
briefs to designers and videographers because I understand their language and
tools. If necessary, I can step in and execute tasks, but my primary role is
strategic.
Let's clarify the different types of
content:
- Text Content: This should be
crafted by skilled content writers with diverse writing styles and
linguistic expertise. While general marketers may attempt this,
specialized writers deliver superior results.
- Visual Content: This encompasses
graphic design and video/photography. Graphic designers possess formal
training and creative vision, translating brand identities into visual
elements. While I can create basic designs, I'm not a specialist.
Similarly, I can produce quality videos and photos, but I lack the
in-depth technical knowledge of a professional.
- Sound Content: While I have a
general understanding of music and sound in marketing, I cannot create
original jingles or soundtracks. I can provide feedback, but I'm not a
sound specialist.
I'm addressing this because the Jordanian
market, and likely others, are increasingly demanding that marketers possess
specialized skills in design and video. This trend undervalues specialized
talent and compromises the quality of work.
Furthermore, the term "content
creator" is now applied to virtually everyone, which dilutes its meaning.
Here's my definition of content marketing,
based on experience:
Content marketing involves strategically
utilizing text, visual, and sound content to reach the right audience, generate
revenue, build brand image, and ensure long-term brand sustainability. It's
about bridging the gap between creative and corporate worlds.
In essence, content marketers orchestrate the work of specialists. While social media influencers create content, they rely on the foundational work of marketers, designers, developers, and videographers.
